Fairbourne Railway Gala Weekend: 25th May - 27th May 2024

For over a century, the Fairbourne Railway has been a charming and essential part of the Welsh landscape, connecting Fairbourne village to the mouth of the Mawddach Estuary and offering a delightful ferry link to Barmouth. This quaint railway, one of "The Great Little Trains of Wales," has a storied history and continues to enchant visitors of all ages.

This year, Fairbourne Railway is celebrating a century since the birth of the iconic 15-inch gauge locomotive, Count Louis!

Making its first visit to Fairbourne is also the charming 12-inch gauge Mad Bess. It will join the resident steam engines Russell, Yeo, and Sherpa, taking turns to pull trains throughout the day. With departures on the hour and half-hour, your all-day ticket lets you hop on and off, ensuring you can enjoy a ride with every engine.

The Preservation Society (FRPS) will host a range of activities on the platform at Barmouth Ferry. The Fairbourne Railway/FRPS Roadshow will also be based here, offering a variety of gifts, souvenirs, and second-hand transport books for sale.

The cafés at both ends of the line will be open, offering a selection of cakes, snacks, sweets, and ice creams. At Barmouth Ferry Café, enjoy hot food options like chips, sausage rolls, and toasted teacakes, alongside special milkshakes and iced coffee.
